Andrea Clulow and Husband Adopt a Shark Named After Kelly Clarkson
Kelly Clarkson recently learned that she has a namesake under the sea when Andrea Clulow and her husband, Darrell Clulow, appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show. During the episode that aired on January 15, the couple discussed their initiative to teach children about the importance of sharks.
The Clulows are promoting their mission through a children’s book titled Finn & Friends, along with a nonprofit organization of the same name. “There’s no denying sharks can be intimidating creatures, but they’re also beautiful and a central part of our oceans,” Clarkson acknowledged during the segment.
As they shared the inspiration for their project, Andrea expressed her enthusiasm upon revealing a special connection to Clarkson. “I love sharks,” she explained. “We had the opportunity last summer to go on a research expedition, and the first shark that we got to help tag, we adopted, and her name is Kelly Sharkson." Clarkson responded with excitement, exclaiming, “Yes!”
Andrea emphasized the importance of fostering empathy for marine life, especially following a shark attack off the Australian coast that gained widespread media attention in 2022. “We wanted to develop a way to teach children that sharks aren’t monsters,” she stated.
Through their narrative, Andrea aims to inspire young readers to relate to aquatic creatures in a compassionate manner. “I wrote a story about this shark and his ocean friends, and hopefully kids will read this story and relate to these animals and see them through empathy and not fear,” she said, referring to Finn & Friends.
“That’s really clever,” Clarkson remarked, appreciating the creative approach.
A portion of the proceeds from the Clulows’ book will contribute to organizations involved in shark research, ocean conservation, and education. Darrell added that they made the book interactive to encourage engagement. “We wanted them to be inside the story,” he explained.

The Clulows’ book features activities such as a word search, a page for children to draw their favorite sea creatures, and additional resources available online. “When a kid sits down, and they draw something that they love, they’re forming a connection,” Darrell emphasized, adding that the book aims to inspire children to care for the ocean. “When a child finishes this book and feels inspired to get out and explore, care about the ocean, imagines themselves maybe as a future marine biologist, or just sees sharks in a different way, that’s our goal,” he concluded.
