Keke Palmer’s ‘The Burbs’ Gets a Season 2 Renewal on Peacock
Peacock has officially renewed its breakout series, The ‘Burbs, for a second season. The suburban mystery comedy, which stars Keke Palmer and is executive produced by her, continues to gain traction following its premiere.
The renewal comes just two months after The ‘Burbs debuted during Super Bowl Sunday on February 8. The show was heavily promoted with commercials during the game on NBC and Peacock, leading to an impressive launch where all eight episodes were made available immediately. This resulted in The ‘Burbs achieving the highest Day 1 viewership for a Peacock original to date.
Since its release, the series has amassed over 1.7 billion viewing minutes on the platform. It also ranked among Nielsen’s U.S. Originals Top 10 for four consecutive weeks, peaking at No. 2. This is particularly notable given that the ranking measures total viewing minutes, which often disadvantages comedies with shorter run times like The ‘Burbs.
“We’re so thrilled that audiences loved season one of The ‘Burbs, and are going to get to spend more time in Hinkley Hills with Keke and the rest of this incredible cast,” stated Lisa Katz, President of Scripted Content at NBC & Peacock. “A huge congratulations to all of the writers, producers, and crew who updated the beloved original film and created something funny, warm, and highly contemporary.”
Loosely inspired by Imagine Entertainment’s 1989 horror-comedy film of the same name, The ‘Burbs follows a young couple, played by Palmer and Jack Whitehall, who move into the husband’s childhood home. Their lives take a turn when a new neighbor arrives, unveiling long-buried secrets of the cul-de-sac and introducing new, perilous threats to their seemingly peaceful community.
The cast also features Julia Duffy, Paula Pell, Mark Proksch, and Kapil Talwalkar, with the series created by Celeste Hughey.
Season 1 was executive produced by Hughey and Rachel Shukert, alongside Palmer, as well as Seth MacFarlane, Erica Huggins, and Aimee Carlson from Fuzzy Door, and Brian Grazer, Kristen Zolner, and Natalie Berkus from Imagine Entertainment, with direction by Nzingha Stewart. Dana Olsen served as co-executive producer.
UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio behind The ‘Burbs, which has been distributed to over 100 territories globally.
