In a vibrant conversation at the Baccarat Hotel in New York City, actress Kate Hudson shared insights about her latest project, her hair care routine, and the joy brought by her family and community. The energy in the room was palpable as Hudson, radiating charisma in a striking white suit, engaged in a lively discussion that ranged from astrology to basketball.
Hudson is currently starring in the Netflix series Running Point, which features prominently on the TV in the interview suite. “Oh, I love this scene,” she remarks, captivated by the on-screen action.
As a native of Los Angeles, Hudson felt well-prepared to portray Isla, a character inspired by Jeanie Buss, president of the Los Angeles Lakers. “When you grow up in L.A., you have to know about basketball,” she stated, recalling her childhood experiences attending games of her best friend, professional player Baron Davis.
Running Point explores the family dynamics within the NBA, a new realm for Hudson. “I’m not a big follower of trading — but when we started doing the show, that began to change,” she remarked. “But the show is really about the family and their dysfunctional hilarity.”
In the interview, Hudson also elaborated on her hair care routine, revealing her new role as Global Celebrity Spokesperson for Joico and the launch of their campaign Find Your Joi. She expressed her passion for hair extensions, stating, “Yes, I love extensions. My hair is super healthy, but I often rely on extensions to mix things up.”
Talking about her hair texture, Hudson described it as “unruly and defiant” and mentioned the use of various styling products. “Thank God for these [Joico] products,” she added with a chuckle, acknowledging the collection of hairstyles that come with her busy lifestyle.
When prompted about her hair washing routine, Hudson explained that she used to wait several days between washes. However, a recent filming experience where she washed her hair daily transformed her hair health. “I think it needs to be washed. If I’m not, it starts to break,” she noted.
In discussing what defines a “good hair day,” Hudson emphasized the impact of hair on confidence, stating, “When your hair looks good, it really does change the way you feel about everything.”
To maintain her signature styles, Hudson mentioned using big silk scrunchies and wig pins to secure her buns. She also provided insights into her color preferences, opting for a warmer blonde, influenced by her family’s natural hair colors.
Reflecting on personal moments of joy, Hudson expressed gratitude for her children’s support during challenging times. “We were lucky that our house survived,” she shared, addressing the resilience observed in her community. Additionally, she highlighted the joy derived from collaborating with her co-stars, including Mindy Kaling and Ike Barinholtz.
Hudson’s passion for her craft, her family, and community underscores her commitment, both on and off the screen.
