Joey King May Star in Natasha Lyonne’s Upcoming Film ‘Bambo’
Casting News: King to Star in Upcoming Film "Bambo"
Negotiations are underway for actress Joey King to take on the lead role in the upcoming film Bambo, with Natasha Lyonne attached as producer. Should the deal finalize, King will portray Sophie “Bambo” Braverman, a character navigating the tumultuous world of her boxing-promoter father during the 1980s. The narrative follows a Brooklyn-born father striving to emulate the infamous Don King while involving his daughter in a chaotic journey marked by tax evasion, drugs, race cars, lost aspirations, and heartbreak.
The nickname "Bambo," which stands for Baby Rambo, is bestowed upon Sophie by her father, Gideon. Production on Bambo is slated to commence this summer, with Lyonne producing through her Animal Pictures banner, alongside Max Ferguson, Craig Mazin from Word Games, and producers Jason Weinberg and Sarah Sarandos.
Joey King has garnered critical acclaim for her role as Gypsy Rose Blanchard in Hulu’s true-crime series The Act, earning nominations from the Emmy, SAG, Golden Globe, and Critics Choice awards. She is also known for her performances in titles such as Hulu’s We Were the Lucky Ones and Netflix’s A Family Affair. King’s upcoming projects include a role opposite Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock in Practical Magic 2. She is represented by WME and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
Natasha Lyonne, who has recently received Golden Globe and Critics Choice nominations for her work in Peacock’s Poker Face, announced Bambo just a month ago. She is also co-creating and co-starring in Sky’s retro comedy Force & Majeure with Matt Berry. Additionally, Lyonne is set to direct the film Uncanny Valley, produced by Asteria Film Co., the hybrid AI studio she co-founded earlier this year. Fans can also expect her in the upcoming third and final season of HBO’s Euphoria and in Taika Waititi’s adaptation of Klara and the Sun. Lyonne is represented by Ocean Avenue and CAA, as well as attorneys James Adams and Scott Winston.
