Lucky Number Boards Sales for Berlin’s ‘Where To?’ and Teases New Drama about a Palestinian Uber Driver and Israeli Passenger
EXCLUSIVE: Paris-based Lucky Number has secured the international sales rights to Israeli director Assaf Machnes’ debut film Where To? and has released a first teaser in anticipation of its premiere at the Berlinale’s Perspectives section.
Where To? explores the dynamic Berlin nightlife, centering on the interactions between a Palestinian Uber driver and his young Israeli passenger, who is on a personal journey of self-discovery.
Palestinian actor Ehab Salami, known for Let It Be Morning, stars as the Uber driver, Hassan, alongside Israeli actor Ido Tako, featured in Tell Me Everything, as Amir, the Israeli passenger. The cast also includes Milan Peschel (Extrawurst), Rama Nasrallah, Raheeq Haj Yahia-Suleiman, and Enzo Brumm.
This film marks Machnes’ first feature film following a series of acclaimed short films, including Auschwitz on My Mind and Seven Minutes. It is one of 14 first features premiering in the second edition of Berlin’s competitive Perspectives section.
“I’m very excited to have Lucky Number on board just before our premiere at Berlinale. They bring years of experience and a genuine passion for cinema, and I’m glad our film resonates with them,” Machnes expressed. He added, “I hope that together we can share this story with a wide audience around the world, move people, and perhaps offer a meaningful alternative to a prevailing climate of incitement and division.”
Where To? is produced by 2-Team Productions (Come Closer), Rogovin Brothers (Tatami), Iconoclast Films Germany, and Lev Cinemas, with co-production from ZDF-Arte and contributions from Yonatan Finegold and Julia Badouin Finegold.
Founded by seasoned sales and production talents Olivier Barbier, Ola Byszuk, and Lenny Porte in late 2024, Lucky Number’s portfolio includes notable titles such as Berlinale 2025 Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize winner The Blue Trail, TIFF Platform Honorable Mention Hen by György Pálfi, and Oscar-shortlisted film Palestine 36 by Annemarie Jacir.
“With Where To?, we were immediately struck by the film’s humanity and quiet strength. It tells a deeply intimate story, illustrating how a simple taxi ride can foster dialogue, empathy, and genuine connection between two strangers,” the co-heads of Lucky Number stated.
In addition to Where To?, the company’s Berlin slate includes the opening film No Good Men by Shahrbanoo Sadat, and Salvation by Emin Alper, which will be featured in competition.
