Anne Hathaway Talks About the Ongoing Efforts to Bring ‘The Princess Diaries 3’ to Life
Anne Hathaway Confirms Work on ‘The Princess Diaries 3’
Anne Hathaway is actively pursuing a sequel to one of her most cherished roles, expressing a strong desire to bring The Princess Diaries 3 to the big screen. The Oscar-winning actress revealed that her team is "constantly working on" the project.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Hathaway affirmed her commitment, stating she is “100%” eager to return to the fictional kingdom of Genovia.
“We’re constantly working on it. [The Devil Wears Prada 2] cropped up unexpectedly and took over the space,” she explained. “It became impossible to focus on both at the same time.”
Hathaway indicated that the plan is to prioritize Princess Diaries next, although she clarified that the project has not yet been officially greenlit. Recognizing the public’s enthusiasm for a new installment, she and her team are diligently refining the script.
“If I learned anything from [The Devil Wears Prada 2], it’s that expectations are very, very high, and if you’re going to do it, you have to knock it out of the park,” she said.
Hathaway first captured audiences as Mia Thermopolis in Garry Marshall’s 2001 film, adapted from Meg Cabot’s novel. The story follows an ordinary high school student whose life changes dramatically when her grandmother, portrayed by Julie Andrews, reveals that she is the heir to a fictional throne. The film marked a significant turning point in Hathaway’s career and proved to be a commercial success.
The sequel, released in 2004, also performed well, introducing Chris Pine as Nicholas Devereaux, a character who transitions from antagonist to love interest.
As Hathaway and her team continue their work, fans of The Princess Diaries remain hopeful for the return of the beloved characters.
