Jessie J performed an emotionally charged new song during a recent concert in London. The British singer-songwriter premiered “Comes in Waves,” a track from her upcoming album, Don’t Tease Me with a Good Time, which is set for release on November 28. This performance comes four years after she experienced a miscarriage in 2021 and shortly after undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
While introducing “Comes in Waves,” Jessie reflected on her personal grief surrounding the loss of her baby. “Today marks four years that I lost my baby,” Jessie shared with the audience, as reported by The Daily Mail. “I don’t know if anyone has gone through the same thing, but if you have… it’s really f—ing bad.”

“It’s something that you can’t ever really prepare to go through,” she continued. “This song is for anybody that needs that hug. I hope this song can help you as it’s helped me,” as tears streamed down her face during the performance.
The song’s poignant lyrics resonate deeply, expressing, “It comes in waves, like I’m drownin’ in a love I crave that you gave to me / And I hate how much I miss the future that we never made.”
In November 2021, Jessie shared on Instagram that she had “decided to have a baby on my own,” only to be heartbroken during her third scan when she learned that “there was no longer a heartbeat.” She recalled the stark contrast of emotions as she prepared for a concert just a day later.
After her loss, Jessie welcomed her son, Sky, in May 2023, with her partner, Chanan Safir Colman. Speaking about her journey with loss, Jessie noted in a prior interview that the line, “I lost my baby / But the show must go on, right?” captures the necessity of continuing life amid personal tragedy.

Don’t Tease Me with a Good Time also includes the emotional ballad “I’ll Never Know Why,” reflecting on the passing of her friend and bodyguard, Dave. Jessie described the album as a journey through deep grief toward rediscovering joy. The visuals accompanying the music strive to be honest and raw, encapsulating the spectrum of emotions one must face.
The long-awaited album is now available.
