Ja Rule Eager to Embrace Grandfatherhood

Rapper Ja Rule, known for his work in music and film, is looking forward to his new role as a grandfather. At the Dream360 grand opening party in New Jersey on November 13, the 49-year-old artist expressed his excitement about welcoming a new family member, stating he is "very happy and excited."

"It’s a blessing. I’m very, very happy and excited," he told media. Ja Rule also shared that his first child, a daughter, will be having a girl, making it a special moment for the family.

He also mentioned that becoming a grandfather will offer him a chance to become "soft" in a new way. "If I wasn’t soft enough, we’re going to take a second dose of it, but I’m so happy," he remarked. He looks forward to enjoying the experience of having a young child around, especially since all of his own children are now grown.

Ja Rule first announced his daughter Brittney Atkins’s pregnancy during an October appearance on the Sherri show, where he humorously noted, "I’m about to be a grandfather. That don’t even sound right."

When host Sherri Shepherd inquired about how he received the news, Ja Rule recalled a "very cute" revelation. "She put the sonogram in a box and it was a card that said, ‘You’re now grandma and grandfather,’ and the sonogram was inside," he explained.

Reflecting on the moment, Ja Rule shared, "She said, ‘I got a gift for you guys.’ And we thought it was a real gift. So, we go into the room … and we open it up, and she got the camera on." He added, "You can see my expression, see me and wifey’s expression. It was an amazing moment."

As he anticipates his new role, Ja Rule already has a name in mind for his grandchild to call him. "I think I’m going to steal my name from the Notorious B.I.G. Yeah. I love it when they call me Big Poppa," he said with a laugh.

Following the announcement, Shepherd presented him with a custom cardigan featuring the words "Big Poppa." "I love it," he exclaimed. "Big Poppa is in the building."
