Harun Coffee is Back in Leimert Park with a Fresh Community Focus
Harun Coffee Reopens as a Community Hub in Leimert Park
LOS ANGELES — Harun Coffee has officially reopened its doors in Leimert Park following a closure in 2024 brought on by post-pandemic challenges. This beloved Black-owned establishment is returning with a revitalized concept, serving as a community coffee hub during the day and transforming into a cultural space by night.
Founder Chase Johnson expressed enthusiasm for this new chapter, emphasizing the café’s refreshed vision. “We wanted to provide a second version of Harun that was revitalized, renewed, a new energy,” he stated. By day, Harun operates as a coffee shop, and by night, it evolves into what staff describe as a "speakeasy" and intentional listening room.
The newly designed space aims to serve as more than just a coffee stop. It invites locals and creatives to reflect on the rich history of the neighborhood. “This is a movement of a collective of folks who really care about this space,” remarked one supporter. The café aims to create an inviting atmosphere conducive to conversation and cultural expression.
According to community partner Sharon Hall of Community Lift, collaboration has been key in reopening Harun. Hall, whose organization invests in small businesses within areas like Leimert Park, noted, “We design and build and invest in the assets, the businesses, the cultural institutions.”
Johnson and Hall emphasize that the reopening signifies more than the revival of a single business. They aspire to inspire other entrepreneurs to invest in their communities and share their narratives through their ventures. “Hopefully, we can continue to be an inspiration for more businesses to take that next step and go get yourself a brick-and-mortar space, invest in your craft, invest your story,” Hall added.
With its return, Harun Coffee seeks to establish itself once again as a gathering place and cultural hub for the Leimert Park community.
