Google Cloud and Avid Team Up to Enhance AI in Video Editing
Google Cloud has announced a multi-year partnership with Avid, aiming to integrate generative and agentic AI tools into the video editing process. This collaboration was unveiled ahead of the NAB Show in Las Vegas, where both companies are set to have a prominent presence.
The partnership involves the incorporation of Google’s Gemini models and Vertex AI directly into Avid’s systems. This integration is expected to significantly decrease the time needed for media discovery and production. Avid plans to integrate Google AI into Media Composer, its non-linear editing system for film and television, as well as Content Core, a new cloud-native software-as-a-service platform.
In a recent blog post, Google Cloud highlighted its current clients, which include notable organizations such as Gray Media, Major League Baseball, and NBCUniversal.

The blog further noted that many media organizations possess extensive archives of footage that are difficult to search and costly to manage. AI can facilitate this by automatically tagging each scene and shot, making vast video libraries easily searchable, akin to web content. This advancement allows teams to rapidly find and reuse footage, unlocking new opportunities for monetization through localized streaming and enhanced viewer engagement.
Recently, Canal+ in France has begun implementing Google’s AI tools to streamline its archive organization.
“In a half-hour, 22-minute comedy series, there are seven acts, because an act was considered that chunk between commercials,” said Avid’s representative, Hays. “So you already have the ability to take a series and turn it into a micro series that you wanted to. It’s a very interesting possibility, especially given how expensive content production has gotten.”
Avid CEO Wellford Dillard remarked that customers are increasingly seeking intelligent tools that seamlessly integrate with existing workflows and enhance creative processes. He emphasized that the partnership with Google Cloud addresses this demand and reinforces Avid’s commitment to delivering secure, AI-driven innovations that remain interoperable within the broader production landscape.
Anil Jain, Google Cloud’s global managing director of strategic industries, noted that the collaboration indicates a shift in the industry towards more advanced capabilities. He highlighted that editors utilizing the AI-enhanced Avid tools can work alongside intelligent agents to create assets in real time, handling the more labor-intensive aspects of matching styles and filling timelines. This allows them to concentrate on storytelling, rather than infrastructure.
