First Look at Toy Story 5: Tom Hanks and Tim Allen Share the Stage at CinemaCon
Disney has released the first trailer for Toy Story 5, the latest chapter in its cherished animated series featuring Tim Allen and Tom Hanks. The trailer was presented exclusively for attendees during Disney’s CinemaCon panel held in Las Vegas on Thursday.
The footage showcases a poignant moment in which the beloved toys, including Woody and Buzz, find themselves overshadowed by a child captivated by her new Lilly Pad device, a green, connected gadget. Jessie intervenes, attempting to assert her influence: “Our kid needs to make friends, and your screen isn’t helping.” However, the child responds playfully, echoing Jessie’s words back in various styles, eventually resorting to rap.
At CinemaCon, both Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, who voice the iconic characters Woody and Buzz, took the stage together for the first time to discuss the film’s themes and direction.
Continuing the legacy of one of the most successful franchises in animation history, Toy Story 5 confronts the challenges posed to playtime by the rise of electronic devices. This installment reignites the adventures of Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and their companions as they navigate this new landscape.
Tim Allen reprises his role as Buzz Lightyear, while Tom Hanks returns as Woody. Previously, Allen has spoken highly of the sequel, describing it as “a very, very clever story,” asserting that the film’s creation was driven far more by its innovative script than by financial motivations.
The voice cast for this installment features an array of new and returning characters. Craig Robinson voices Atlas, a cheerful talking GPS hippo toy, while Shelby Rabara lends her voice to Snappy, an enthusiastic camera toy. Scarlett Spears portrays Bonnie, an 8-year-old girl, with Mykal-Michelle Harris as Blaze, an independent girl who loves animals. Matty Matheson takes on the role of Dr. Nutcase, a tech-fearing toy.
Other familiar voices include John Ratzenberger as Hamm the piggy bank, Wallace Shawn as Rex the nervous T. rex, and Blake Clark as Slinky Dog. The ensemble cast also features Jeff Bergman as Mr. Potato Head, Anna Vocino as Mrs. Potato Head, Annie Potts as Bo Peep, and many others.
Toys Story 5 is scheduled to be released in theaters on June 19.
