Musician G. Love has revealed that he lost his Bitcoin savings in a recent scam, sharing his experience on social media.
In a post on X, frontman G. Love & Special Sauce described having a “really tough day” after losing his retirement fund due to a hack. He reported that the incident occurred when he switched his @Ledger device to a new computer and accidentally downloaded a malicious app from the @Apple store.
“All my BTC gone in an instant,” he stated in the post.
In another message on X, G. Love disclosed the extent of his loss: “I lost 5.9 BTC all I had for ten years I worked on this f–k be careful out there.” At the time of reporting, 5.9 BTC was valued at approximately $439,000.
Facing skepticism from some users, he responded, “It’s just hard to get scammed. F–k all yall haters that called me a liar.”
“I been in the crypto circus since 2017,” he continued. “Today they caught me off guard. It was my own damn fault for not being more diligent. But let it serve as a warning. There are so many scams.”
The Bitcoin G. Love believes was stolen has reportedly been laundered through KuCoin, a cryptocurrency trading platform. In response to his situation, the company acknowledged the issue on X, stating, “We have taken temporary restraining measures and temporarily frozen the suspicious account for 7 days.” G. Love expressed his gratitude for this action.
Later on X, he commented, “It sucks so bad that there are so many bad actors out there … I truly believe in crypto and I have for almost 10 years, but I’ve gotten f–ked over quite a bit now.”
Apple has stated that its store prohibits apps aimed at scamming users. Following G. Love’s revelations, the company removed the fraudulent Ledger app and terminated the developer’s account. Users who suspect fraudulent activity can report it through Apple’s website.
On the music charts, G. Love’s band has scored nine albums on the Billboard 200, with the 2011 LP Fixin’ to Die reaching No. 8 on the Top Rock Albums listing.
