Golden Globes Recap: Hamnet Takes Home an Award While Frankenstein Misses Out and More Highlights
The 83rd Golden Globe Awards propelled the 2026 awards season into full swing on Sunday night, featuring notable upsets and unexpected triumphs.
Among the evening’s surprises, Teyana Taylor won the Best Female Supporting Actor award for her performance in One Battle After Another, defeating Amy Madigan, who had been favored for her role in Weapons. Additionally, Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet secured the Best Motion Picture – Drama award, triumphing over its competitor Sinners in the final presentation of the night.
Zhao appeared momentarily speechless upon receiving her award, only finding her voice after being handed the microphone by producer Steven Spielberg.
One Battle After Another dominated the awards, with Paul Thomas Anderson earning honors for both Screenplay and Director, outpacing Sinners’ Ryan Coogler. In contrast, Frankenstein, despite receiving five nominations, failed to secure any awards.

Although Taylor had garnered multiple critic awards, her win for Supporting Actress surprised many, particularly herself. With Amy Madigan considered a front-runner following her success at the Critics Choice Awards, this victory marked a significant upset in the category.
Snub – ‘Sinners’ Screenplay
While One Battle After Another consistently performed well this awards season, expectations had risen regarding a possible split among voters between it and Sinners. Nevertheless, Anderson’s win for both Director and Screenplay solidified his film’s status as a dominant force of the night.
Surprise – ‘Hamnet’ Wins Best Motion Picture – Drama

Hamnet took home the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Drama, with Zhao expressing her astonishment at the win, as many had anticipated Sinners to secure the top honor. She notably mentioned Coogler, the director of Sinners, during her acceptance speech.
Snub – Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘Frankenstein’
Despite landing various nominations and a Critics Choice award for lead actor Jacob Elordi, Frankenstein left the Golden Globes without any accolades, surprising some observers.
Snub – ‘Wicked: For Good’ Wins Zero

Wicked: For Good did not win any awards, a surprising outcome for a sequel to the previous year’s Cinematic and Box Office Achievement winner. Stars Ariana Grande and Colman Domingo attended, while Cynthia Erivo was notably absent due to stage commitments.
