Quincy Jones, the celebrated music producer and composer, passed away at the age of 91 on November 3, 2024. Despite his illustrious career, which included 28 Grammy awards, Jones regarded his role as a father to his seven children as his most significant accomplishment.
His children, who include Jolie, 71, Rachel, 61, Martina, 59, Quincy III, 57, Kidada, 51, Rashida, 49, and Kenya, 32, were a central part of his life. Following his death, the Jones family released a statement saying, "He is truly one of a kind and we will miss him dearly. We take comfort and immense pride in knowing that the love and joy, that were the essence of his being, was shared with the world through all that he created."
While Jones maintained close relationships with his children, he acknowledged the challenges of parenting. He reflected, "Never underestimate your role in your kid’s lives. I learned that a bit later in my life, but I’m so glad I finally figured it out because being a father is hands down one of the greatest blessings!"
Several of Jones’s children have chosen to pursue careers in the entertainment industry. In 2018, he praised them in an Instagram post, stating, "[They] never cease to amaze me with how brilliant, kind, creative, & perseverant they are. In each of their respective fields, they continue to push forward, despite the external voices that tell them they aren’t good enough."
