Carrie Underwood, renowned for her Grammy Award-winning country music career, embraces her role as a devoted mother. Married to former NHL player Mike Fisher, the couple welcomed their first son, Isaiah Michael, in 2015, followed by their second son, Jacob Bryan, in 2019.
Underwood acknowledges the challenge of juggling family life with her demanding career. Prior to the birth of Jacob, she spoke about the necessity of prioritizing family time. "When we first found out we were gonna have him [Isaiah], it was like, ‘How are we gonna do this? Our lives are so crazy as it is?’ But you just make room," she reflected. "Family time is so important, and to maybe get to go on vacation and spend time together—that stuff is what it’s all about."
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Underwood found herself at home, granting her precious time with her children. "I’ve never been in one place for this long in the past 15-plus years," she noted in a virtual interview with the Today show. "It’s been really great to just get to know them and watch them grow—especially Jake. It’s such a critical time in his life."
Looking ahead, Underwood announced her return to touring with the Denim & Rhinestones Tour, her first since 2019. While her family has accompanied her on tour in the past, this time will differ. "This tour, I’m going home a lot more than I ever have before. If there’s a way to get me home, even if it’s just for the day," she explained in an interview.
In October 2022, Underwood shared a touching moment on Instagram, featuring her sons watching her perform. As Isaiah waved and blew kisses, Jacob rested peacefully in Fisher’s arms. "My sweet boys came to see their mommy’s first show!" she captioned the video.
Underwood’s love for her sons extends to shaping their individual identities.
Isaiah Michael Fisher, 10
Isaiah was born on February 27, 2015, in Tennessee. Upon his arrival, Underwood announced his birth on Instagram, sharing the joy of welcoming "an amazing gift." By age four, Isaiah was adjusting to the tour life, affectionately referred to as "The Mayor of Catering" by crew members. “He’s such a people guy,” his mother commented.
At just five years old, Isaiah made his musical debut alongside Underwood on her Christmas album My Gift. Reflecting on their recording experience, Underwood stated, "I was able to be in the booth with him and encourage him. I was laughing, and I was crying—it was very overwhelming in a good way."
Isaiah has also ventured into sports; in September 2021, Underwood proudly announced his baseball debut on Instagram. "I got more nervous watching him than I used to get when I watched his daddy play hockey!"
Celebrating his seventh birthday in 2022 with a Star Wars-themed party, Underwood expressed her pride, noting, "He has the biggest heart and the brightest smile." She praised his charitable nature, revealing, "He’s the kind of kid who would rather raise money for kids than get gifts for himself. What 7-year-old does that?!?"
As he matures, Isaiah is increasingly aware of his mother’s fame. Underwood noted, "He’ll go to school and someone will say, ‘I saw your mom on TV last night.’"
Jacob Bryan Fisher, 7
Jacob was born on January 21, 2019. Underwood shared the joy of his arrival on Instagram, expressing gratitude that God entrusted her family with "this little miracle." After experiencing the heartache of three miscarriages, she openly discussed her struggles leading up to Jacob’s birth. "The miscarriages made me get real with God and say, ‘Okay, I kind of give up a little bit. If this isn’t meant to happen, then I need to accept that.’"
Often referred to as her "miracle baby," Underwood celebrated Jacob’s second birthday with a heartfelt tribute, stating, "We longed for you. We prayed for you." She remarked, "You are an incredible blessing from God."
While the age gap between her two sons was not initially planned, Underwood acknowledged, "We wanted our kids a little closer in age. That didn’t happen, because God has a different plan sometimes."
As Underwood navigates the complexities of motherhood and a successful music career, she continually emphasizes the importance of her family, shaping their identities and cherishing every moment with them.
