FKA Twigs Reflects on Life’s Dualities
In a revealing interview with ELLE UK, musician FKA Twigs shared insights into her understanding of life’s complexities. The 37-year-old artist, who graces the cover of the magazine’s February issue, detailed the contrasting experiences of beauty and brutality she’s encountered as she approaches her late 30s.
"I’m reaching that age where I can really look back at my life and I can see so many things that have been beautiful and amazing, and other things that have been really brutal and violent," she explained. "I’m realizing that I can hold my love of life and my artistry and the beauty of my life, and I can also hold the brutality and the sadness and the violence. I can hold things at the same time, and that feels really good."
Twigs described life as a metaphorical raspberry: “bitter but sweet,” emphasizing the dualities that define human experiences.

This candid conversation follows Twigs’ recent legal battle with actor Shia LaBeouf. She filed a lawsuit against him in December 2020, alleging severe sexual and physical abuse, as well as knowingly giving her a sexually transmitted disease. In July, the lawsuit was dismissed after the two parties reached a settlement out of court.
LaBeouf, who denied all allegations, acknowledged his troubled past, stating, "I have a history of hurting the people closest to me. I’m ashamed of that history and am sorry to those I hurt."
In a joint statement, the former couple expressed a desire to move forward positively: "Committed to forging a constructive path forward, we have agreed to settle our case out of court."
Following the resolution of her lawsuit, Twigs has expressed her focus on the future. In a discussion with The Hollywood Reporter, she indicated her intent to engage with organizations aimed at raising awareness about domestic abuse and sexual violence.
Twigs is currently dating filmmaker Jordan Hemingway, with whom she has collaborated on music videos for her albums Eusexua and Eusexua Afterglow. She described their working relationship as "the best feeling in the world" and noted the creativity it fosters.
Additionally, she shared her perspective on fame. "The most interesting part of me is what I do. It’s not who I am. I’m not a pop star. And I don’t want to be regarded in that way,” she remarked, emphasizing her desire for her work to take center stage rather than her celebrity status.
