Are ‘The Pitt’ Fans Saying Goodbye to Supriya Ganesh?
SPOILER ALERT: The following reveals key plot points from the Season 2 finale of HBO Max’s The Pitt.
In a deeply emotional storyline, Dr. Samira Mohan, portrayed by Supriya Ganesh, faces profound challenges throughout the second season of The Pitt. The character’s struggle is marked not just by professional pressures but also personal turmoil, as she contends with relentless calls from her mother that disregard her boundaries, pushing her towards breaking point.
The mounting stress culminates in a panic attack earlier in the season, highlighting the mental strain she endures. As the Season 2 finale unfolds, Mohan reconnects with Dr. Robby, played by Noah Wyle. Their reunion occurs outside the hospital, where Robby, previously reprimanding Mohan for letting her personal issues interfere with her work, remains unaware of how his own mental health crisis affects his staff.
During their conversation, Robby inquires whether Mohan has made progress in selecting an elective. When she reveals that she has not, his attempt to offer advice comes off as somewhat late. Recognizing Robby’s struggle, Mohan calmly reminds him of his importance in the emergency room, stating, “even if you can be a dick sometimes.” Her gentle honesty elicits a knowing smile from him, acknowledging his shortcomings.
Earlier this month, it was announced that Ganesh would be leaving the show, signaling a significant shift for Mohan’s character. It appears she will need time to address her personal challenges and reconsider her future—though sadly, this decision means her character will not be returning.

R. Scott Gemmill, the show’s creator and executive producer, confirmed that Mohan’s emotional scene on the hospital rooftop marks her final appearance on the series. “The nature of the business of a teaching hospital is that people come and go, and we try to be as realistic as possible,” he explained. “We’ve had people leave, and we will continue to have people leave over the course of the show… that’s just the nature of the show.” Gemmill affirmed that viewers should expect to continue saying goodbye to characters in future seasons.
