Exciting Saturday Finals for Boys Volleyball in the City Section
High School Volleyball City Section Finals
BIRMINGHAM, CA – The City Section Finals concluded over the weekend with several thrilling matches across various divisions.
In Division I, the top-seeded Taft team decisively defeated third-seeded Cleveland with scores of 25-23, 25-14, and 25-21. Over in Division IV, the seventh-seeded Maywood CES triumphed over fourth-seeded Math & Science College Prep, winning 25-17 in all three sets, with a close finish in the final set at 25-23.
At Venice, Division II saw fourth-seeded Marquez overcome sixth-seeded Narbonne, winning the match 23-25, 25-19, 29-27, and 25-16. In Division III, the thirteenth-seeded Birmingham achieved a stunning victory against second-seeded Legacy, with scores of 25-20, 17-25, 31-33, 25-21, and 15-10.
On Saturday at Birmingham, in the Open Division, third-seeded Chatsworth bested the top-seeded Granada Hills, clinching victory with scores of 24-26, 25-21, 25-14, and 25-18. Additionally, in Division V, 314 Franklin defeated thirteenth-seeded Rancho Dominguez in straight sets, 25-18, 25-19, and 25-16.
In the Southern Section Finals, Vasquez triumphed over Tarbut V’ Torah in Division 9, in a match that went to a fifth set, concluding with scores of 25-19, 22-25, 25-21, 19-25, and 15-10.
On Friday at Cerritos College, top-seeded Mira Costa dominated third-seeded Loyola in Division 1 with scores of 25-21, 25-22, and 25-22. In Division 4, Sunny Hills edged out Royal, winning 24-26, 25-22, 27-25, and 25-23. Further matches at home sites saw Bishop Diego defeat St. Anthony in Division 5, and Temescal Canyon triumph over West Valley in Division 8.
Saturday’s matches at Cerritos College featured Orange Lutheran defeating Edison 3-1 in Division 2, while Windward emerged victorious against St. John Bosco, with final scores of 24-26, 25-21, 25-22, and 25-20 in Division 3. Culver City also achieved a hard-fought victory in Division 6 against Garden Grove, with scores of 27-25, 25-20, 19-25, 21-25, and 15-9.
These results reflect the competitive spirit and skill of high school volleyball teams in the area, setting the stage for future challenges ahead.
