The journey to parenthood was not without its challenges for Badgley and Kirke. Before their sons were born, the couple experienced two miscarriages back-to-back. In February 2020, Kirke announced her pregnancy in a now-deleted Instagram post. Following the miscarriages, she noted that she felt ready to give up, stating, “I stopped trusting my body and started to accept the fact that I was done.”
Badgley has also openly discussed the emotional struggles stemming from these losses. In his 2025 book, “Crushmore: Essays on Love, Loss, and Coming-of-Age,” he described the toll it took on their relationship, admitting they nearly separated. Despite the hardship, he emphasized that those experiences ultimately strengthened their bond.
“That was a real inflection point — one of the greatest of my life and my wife’s,” Badgley recounted during a podcast appearance. “Here we are with three biological children since.” He has called parenting “the most immeasurable thing in existence,” remarking on the profound care needed for children.

In October, Kirke presented the first photo of their son, depicting Badgley gazing lovingly at the infant.

The couple announced in February 2025 that they were expecting twins. Kirke described the news as a “PLOT TWIST” in a since-deleted Instagram post, expressing her amazement at the surprise of spontaneous twins. The twins were born in late summer, though the couple formally announced their arrival in September 2025 with a shared video from Badgley.
In the clip, Badgley confirmed he was on paternity leave, subtly pointing out, “There’s tiny little baby feet right there,” while ensuring not to wake the newborns. Kirke later posted a snapshot of the twins, humorously noting, “…and then there were four.”
Discussing the twins during a November 2025 podcast appearance, Badgley noted how identical they have become as they grow, although they were initially easy to differentiate.

Before her union with Badgley, Kirke had a son named Cassius with musician Morgan O’Kane. This relationship has positioned Badgley in two distinct parental roles, balancing being a biological father to his own sons while also acting as a stepfather.
Badgley reflected on this dynamic during an interview, stating, “I have a biological son and a stepson. His father is very much in his life. So his father is his father, and I’m something else.”
Keeping Their Children’s Names Private

Badgley and Kirke have kept their children’s names out of public view, releasing only a limited number of photos on social media and choosing not to disclose their names.
During a May 2025 appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,” Badgley addressed rumors regarding his oldest son’s name, clarifying, “This is a very weird thing to say, but … his name is not James. His name, because he’s 4, will remain undisclosed for as long as we can manage.”
In November 2025, he mentioned their twins’ names during the “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast, stating, “Their names are a sound bite. I’m not going to share them yet. In years to come, I’m sure I will.” He added that their names are both unusual and memorable, commenting, “Now I’m drawing attention to it.”
Badgley’s Parenting Philosophy

Though Badgley has chosen to keep his children largely out of the public eye, he has been candid about his experiences as a parent. He noted that becoming a father has provided him with significant clarity. “Being a father is fun and joyful, deeply meaningful and rewarding, when you can be present. Easy to say, hard to do,” he reflected.
In an interview, Badgley shared that they recently employed a night nurse to help manage the twins, calling the assistance “merciful,” albeit with its own challenges. He recognized a balance between being hands-on parents and needing help with certain aspects of parenting.
Kirke has articulated her own approach to motherhood, stating, “We can’t overcompensate for what we didn’t get without it somehow backfiring. Meeting my kids where they are and doing my own inner work is the only way I can show up fully for my family.”
