Emilia Clarke and Haley Lu Richardson make their mark in the action-packed trailer for their upcoming Peacock series, Ponies.
This spy thriller casts Clarke, 39, as Bea and Richardson, 30, as Twila. Their friendship blossoms after both women relocate to Moscow, where their husbands, undercover CIA agents at the U.S. Embassy, face an untimely death in a plane crash. In the wake of their loss, the widows volunteer to take on their husbands’ responsibilities, thrusting them into the dangerous underbelly of espionage.
In a clever ruse, they pose as secretaries for the U.S. Ambassador to the USSR, working tirelessly to piece together the events surrounding their husbands’ deaths and the hidden intricacies of Soviet life.
In a poignant moment from the trailer, Richardson’s character asserts, “We’re women, people only look at us if they want to have sex with us or marry us, and that’s it. No one would ever suspect anything of us.”
Adrian Lester portrays Dane, a seasoned CIA operative who plays a crucial role in their transition into the intelligence community. He warns them, “This job demands sacrifice. Most people are not cut out for it,” amidst a backdrop of intense action sequences.

A humorous exchange occurs when Richardson’s character unintentionally sets a bar on fire. “You could have killed someone,” Twila comments, to which Bea replies, “I didn’t know it was flammable.” Twila then quips, “Everything is flammable once you light it on fire.”
The trailer also showcases the women as they navigate newfound relationships while balancing their undercover lives, adding depth to the narrative.
In a gripping scene with a KGB official, Dane cryptically addresses the women, stating, “I’m a P-O-I. Person of Interest. But you two are P-O-N-I’s.”
Twila humorously responds with “Ponies,” leading Bea to clarify, “Persons of no interest.” The trailer is rich with visuals that capture the opulence of Russian interiors and the meticulous 1970s fashion.
Ponies is set to premiere on Peacock on January 15, 2026.
