Ellen DeGeneres Reprises Her Role as Dory in Exciting New Pixar Short
A new short film featuring Dory from Pixar’s Finding Nemo franchise is currently in production, though details about the plot and additional creative team members remain undisclosed. The release schedule for the short is yet to be confirmed.
The original Finding Nemo, directed by Andrew Stanton, debuted in 2003 and followed the story of Marlin, an overprotective clownfish voiced by Albert Brooks, on his quest across the ocean to find his son, Nemo, voiced by Alexander Gould. The film became a cultural touchstone, earning over $941 million worldwide and winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
Ellen DeGeneres’ character, Dory, quickly emerged as one of the franchise’s standout figures. She became the focus of the 2016 sequel, Finding Dory, which saw Stanton return as director. This installment not only resonated with audiences but also grossed over $1 billion globally, establishing it as one of the highest-grossing animated films at the time.
In addition to the two main films, DeGeneres has lent her voice to Dory in various Disney theme park attractions, including the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage at Disneyland, as well as in several shorts and cross-platform projects.
DeGeneres, recognized as one of the most influential stand-up comedians, previously hosted The Ellen DeGeneres Show for 19 seasons, during which it won 64 Daytime Emmys before concluding in 2022.
The forthcoming short marks one of DeGeneres’ earliest returns to the screen since her Netflix stand-up special, For Your Approval, scheduled for release in 2024. In this special, she reflects on her highly publicized departure from her talk show. DeGeneres is represented by WME, LBI, and Yorn, Levine, Barnes.
