Driver Rescued After Getting Caught in Flooded Cajon Pass Road
Driver Missing After Being Swept Away by Floodwaters in San Bernardino County
SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. – Search efforts are underway for a driver who was swept away while attempting to cross a flooded road in San Bernardino County during a powerful storm that struck Southern California overnight.
Authorities reported that the incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday near Keenbrook Road and Cajon Boulevard in the Devore area. Fire officials confirmed that the driver, navigating a full-size pickup truck, entered a flooded section of roadway where fast-moving water quickly trapped him. As the water rose, the driver was forced to climb onto the roof of his vehicle.
Rescue crews were approaching the scene when strong currents caused the truck to shift, and the man was swept away, disappearing from sight within moments. Swiftwater rescue teams then moved downstream to establish a search line, but after two hours, efforts were suspended for the night.
Authorities are urging caution, reminding drivers to avoid flooded roads and never attempt to cross moving water.
In addition to the flooding, the storm brought blizzard-like conditions to the region, impacting areas such as Lake Arrowhead, Blue Jay, Skyforest, and Crestline. Heavy snowfall and strong winds have resulted in rapidly decreasing visibility. Chain controls are currently in effect and strictly enforced in the mountains.
