Dove Cameron is sharing insights into her fiancé Damiano David’s proposal for the first time. The 30-year-old singer and actress announced her engagement to the Måneskin frontman, 27, via Instagram on January 3. In a conversation with Vogue on January 26, Cameron disclosed the details of the proposal and her astonishment at the moment.

While the engagement photos shared on social media exuded glamour, they were captured by friends during a New Year’s getaway. The actual proposal was described by Cameron as a simple and intimate moment between the couple in October.

“For the actual proposal, I wasn’t wearing any makeup,” Cameron noted. “I was completely barefaced because I had no idea that day would come. It was very sweet in that way since I’m usually quite made-up; I enjoy experimenting with that. But on that day, I was just in my big T-shirt, slightly damp hair, and no makeup.”

In late October, engagement rumors began circulating when the couple was spotted in Sydney, Australia, with Cameron wearing her new engagement ring. The couple, who have been together for two years, enjoyed a few months of private engagement bliss before sharing the news publicly.

In January, Italian jeweler Alessandro Bernini revealed details of the couple’s unique engagement rings on Instagram, stating they were “created to celebrate the union of two souls and the timeless bond of love.” Each ring features a meaningful inscription on the inner band—David’s reads, “The best part of being alive,” while Cameron’s says, “My favorite part of being alive.”

Since announcing their engagement, Cameron and David have kept their wedding plans under wraps. However, Cameron expressed to Vogue her desire for a bridal look that feels authentic to her. “I don’t want to do something too traditional. Whenever I have my makeup done with a simple, pretty look, I don’t feel like myself,” she explained. “I’d prefer being completely barefaced or having a more relaxed, smudgy eye, as if I applied my eyeliner myself.”
