Dom Bird’s Indie Lands Gets Greenlight for Extended Series of BBC’s ‘Marvellous Miniature Workshop’ Hosted by Sara Cox on Radio 2
New Commission for EarlyBird: Extended Edition of BBC’s The Marvellous Miniature Workshop
EarlyBird, an indie production company launched by Dom Bird, has secured its first commission: an extended edition of the popular BBC series The Marvellous Miniature Workshop.
The show, which has been given a 20-episode order, features a team of expert miniaturists who recreate beloved buildings and locations tied to participants’ personal stories. This new edition will see each episode extended to 45 minutes, a significant increase from the eight episodes in the inaugural season.
Sara Cox, recently appointed as the host of the Radio 2 Breakfast Show, which is the BBC’s most-listened-to radio program, will reprise her role as the presenter of The Marvellous Miniature Workshop.
Bird expressed his enthusiasm for Cox’s return, stating, "I’m delighted Sara’s returning to BBC One for this new run. Seeing audiences respond so positively to The Marvellous Miniature Workshop has been a real pleasure, and I’m thrilled that the BBC has commissioned EarlyBird to deliver this super-sized order. These extended 45-minute episodes will enable Sara to immerse viewers even further into the extraordinary artistry of our miniaturists, showcasing the programme’s exceptional ability to capture the magic in the minutiae."
Cox also shared her excitement for the new season, saying, “I’m absolutely over the moon about the new series of Marvellous Miniature Workshop, it’s easily the most heartwarming and wonderful programme I’ve ever been involved with.”
The series was commissioned by Rob Unsworth, with Rachel Platt serving as commissioning editor. Bird and Nicki Stoker will executive produce on behalf of EarlyBird, and the show was developed by Phoebe Thompson.
