Demi Lovato, looking effortlessly glamorous in a white furry jacket, appeared exhausted but enthusiastic as she shared her current favorite women in pop music. “Zara Larsson, of course,” she stated in an interview with Billboard. “Adela. I’ll always be a huge fan of Lady Gaga. Sabrina [Carpenter]’s great.”
As the clock approached midnight, Lovato battled post-show brain fog, humorously acknowledging, “Sorry, I just played a concert.”
The singer was backstage at Madison Square Garden, where she headlined for the first time on April 24. During a brief meet-and-greet, Lovato snapped photos with fans, who were notably refreshed thanks to samples of her favorite mouthwash provided by brand partner TheraBreath.
“I mean, all the pop girlies are great,” she continued, reflecting on her place among the prominent figures in pop music.
After a distinct shift to rock music with her 2022 album Holy Fvck, which she described as her farewell to pop, Lovato returned to the genre in October 2025 with It’s Not That Deep, an album of electronic dance-pop tracks that debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard 200. Earlier that day, she announced a deluxe version, It’s Not That Deep (Unless You Want It to Be), featuring eight new songs, including the fan-favorite track “Low Rise Jeans,” which she debuted during the opening night of her tour.
Lovato expressed excitement about the new songs, stating they “add so much” to the meaningful It’s Not That Deep era. “They are great additions to the body of work that was already created,” she remarked. She detailed the creative process, mentioning, “Pretty Catatonic was the first one that came out of that writing process, and I fell in love with it. It just kind of unfolded from there.”
During her performance at MSG, Lovato energized the crowd with a mix of It’s Not That Deep tracks and older hits like “Heart Attack,” “Sorry Not Sorry,” and “Cool For The Summer.” She surprised attendees by inviting JoJo on stage for a duet of “Too Little Too Late” and performed live for the first time with her husband Jutes, who joined her for a heartfelt rendition of “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls.
At the tour’s opening night in Orlando, Lovato also thrilled fans by reuniting with Joe Jonas to perform “This Is Me,” a classic from their shared Disney past ahead of the impending Camp Rock 3, which both are executive producing. The nostalgia was palpable, as fellow Disney star Selena Gomez attended the Orlando show and met with Lovato backstage.
“I think the age that we’re at is really loving nostalgia right now,” Lovato told Billboard. “For all the people who are in their 30s and have lived through the Disney era with me, Selena, the Jonas Brothers, and Miley, they’re craving it, and it’s fun to go back and relive those moments.”
Lovato noted that the audience’s passion for that iconic era has fostered reconnections among past Disney stars. “Oh, definitely,” she agreed. “I think that’s why it’s all coming together again in this day and age.”
