David Harbour, Rebecca Hall, and Esmé Creed-Miles Star in Upcoming Horror Film ‘A Head Full of Ghosts’ as Lionsgate Secures Worldwide Rights
Lionsgate Acquires Worldwide Rights for Psychological Horror Film "A Head Full of Ghosts"
Lionsgate has secured worldwide distribution rights for the upcoming psychological horror film A Head Full of Ghosts ahead of the European Film Market. The film is set to star David Harbour, known for his role in Stranger Things, along with Rebecca Hall and Esmé Creed-Miles, who are currently in final negotiations.
Filming for A Head Full of Ghosts is scheduled to begin in March, with production led by Team Downey, Fifth Season, and The Allegiance Theater. The film’s synopsis reveals that the Barrett family’s suburban life is shattered when their teenage daughter’s spiral into madness becomes fodder for a reality show. Fifteen years later, her sister Merry confronts their family’s harrowing past alongside a journalist, delving into the nature of the evil that fractured their lives.
The project is based on the 2015 novel by Paul Tremblay and will be written and directed by Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala, the creative minds behind the acclaimed film Goodnight Mommy. That film was Austria’s Oscar entry for Best Foreign Language Film in 2014, while the directors made their English-language debut with The Lodge in 2020.
During next week’s European Film Market in Berlin, Lionsgate will be offering international rights to the film, and it is expected that the studio will also manage domestic distribution.
The film is produced by Daniel Dubiecki and Lara Alameddine of The Allegiance Theater, as well as Susan Downey and Robert Downey Jr. of Team Downey, alongside David Gambino and Fifth Season. The deal was negotiated by Lauren Bixby on behalf of Lionsgate.
Adam Fogelson, Chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, expressed enthusiasm for the project: “We’re thrilled to partner with Team Downey, The Allegiance Theater, and David Gambino, and our friends at Fifth Season, who collectively bring exceptional prestige and creative confidence to the project. This team’s artistic vision for this terrifying story has been undeniable – striking, distinct and genuinely unsettling. It’s no surprise that Stephen King called this book his favorite novel of the past decade and said that it ‘scared the living hell’ out of him – which says it all.”
Team Downey is represented by WME and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller, Gellman, Meigs & Fox, while Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala are represented by WME and Black Bear.
