David Barber Re-Elected as President of Motion Picture Sound Editors; New Board Members Announced
MPSE Elects New Board Members and Re-elects David Barber as President
The Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE) has announced the results of its 2025 Board of Directors election, reappointing David Barber for another two-year term as president of the organization. “It is a great honor to represent the Motion Picture Sound Editors in this capacity once more,” Barber stated. He first assumed the role in 2023 and expressed enthusiasm about continuing his work with the board and Executive Director Tracie Costabile. “I look forward to building on the programs and initiatives we’ve put in motion these past few years,” he added.
Additionally, Eric Marks, the current Vice President, will step down after next year’s Golden Reel Awards. Korey Pereira, an Emmy-winning dialogue editor known for his work on Stranger Things, will take over as interim VP for his final year. Pereira serves as Head of Audio at the University of Texas at Austin’s Moody College of Communications.
In other board developments, Brent Findley has been elected as the new secretary, while Vickie Sampson has secured a seat in the Retired board category.
Returning board members include Peter Albrechtsen (Denmark), Baylon Fonseca (India), Kevin Howard (Canada), Mark Lanza (United States, California), and Tim Muirhead (Canada). Newly elected members are Alex Borquez, Timothy Day, and Nicholas Papaleo, all hailing from California.
Looking ahead, the MPSE’s 73rd annual Golden Reel Awards ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, March 8, with nominations to be announced on Monday, January 12. Notable contenders for the award include Wicked, Dune: Part Two, Saturday Night, The Wild Robot, and Emilia Pérez, which were highlighted among film winners, while TV accolades went to Shōgun, The Penguin, Only Murders in the Building, Ripley, and Arcane.
