John Turturro Teaches Photographers His Name Pronunciation at Goodbye June Screening
John Turturro made headlines during the screening of Kate Winslet’s directorial debut, Goodbye June, on December 8, 2025, by correcting photographers on the pronunciation of his last name.
"I’m only doing this because I’m friends with Kate," Turturro remarked while posing for pictures on the red carpet. His presence at the event highlighted his support for Winslet, who he had previously collaborated with on his 2005 film, Romance & Cigarettes.
During the event in New York City, Turturro, 68, noticed a photographer mispronouncing his name. In a lighthearted manner, he clarified, "No, it’s ‘Tor-turro.’ That’s how you say it. You say my name right, then I’ll take a picture." Several attendees echoed the correct pronunciation back to him, adding a jovial atmosphere to the gathering.
Though Turturro did not appear in Goodbye June, the film marks a significant milestone as Winslet’s first directorial effort, created in collaboration with her son, Joe Anders. The film is set against a backdrop of familial complexities faced during an unexpected health crisis just before Christmas. It also features an ensemble cast, including Toni Collette, Andrea Riseborough, and Helen Mirren.
Goodbye June will be available in select theaters on December 12 and on Netflix starting December 24. Turturro’s recent projects include season 2 of Apple TV+’s Severance and films such as The Cut and The Room Next Door, both released in 2024.
