CW Greenlights ‘Private Eyes West Coast’ Featuring Jason Priestley and Cindy Sampson
EXCLUSIVE: Jason Priestley is set to remain with The CW, where he stars in the new series Wild Cards. He will also take on the role of star and executive producer for Private Eyes West Coast, a series recently picked up by the Nexstar-owned broadcaster.
Private Eyes West Coast is a spinoff of a Canadian detective comedy-drama that enjoyed a successful five-season run. In the new series, Priestley and Cindy Sampson reprise their roles as private investigators Matt Shade and Angie Everett. The show was initially greenlit by Canada’s Corus Entertainment.
The ten-part series is set to premiere later this year on The CW and has already been renewed for a second season by Corus.

Private Eyes West Coast is produced by Piller/Segan, the team behind Wild Cards, in collaboration with Lionsgate Canada.
In the series, Shade and Angie leave behind their P.I. firm and attempt to embrace a quieter life on the West Coast. However, their plans are disrupted when they find themselves at the scene of a murder involving a woman with a bloody steak knife over her dead boyfriend. Believing in her innocence, Shade and Angie jump back into the complexities of investigation.
As the season unfolds, the private eyes face the challenges of establishing a new P.I. firm in an unfamiliar city. Without their established network from Toronto, they work to forge new connections. From searching for a missing student in British Columbia’s wilderness to extracting a murder confession from a surfer in Tofino, Shade and Angie navigate a series of heart-pounding adventures on the West Coast.
Priestley, who also directs two episodes of the series, is joined in executive production by Shawn Piller, Lloyd Segan, Sarah Dodd, Jennifer Kassabian, Jocelyn Hamilton, and Darren Giblin. Dodd and Kassabian serve as showrunners, while Lionsgate holds the international distribution rights.
“We are thrilled to welcome Private Eyes West Coast to our fall lineup and to continue working with the immensely talented Jason Priestley on another CW series,” stated Brad Schwartz, President of The CW Network. “We are also excited to expand our partnership with Lionsgate, as well as collaborate once again with the Piller/Segan team, who have made Wild Cards the network’s most-watched scripted series of the year, creating yet another show filled with humor, action, and undeniable chemistry between the lead characters.”
Jocelyn Hamilton, President of Television, Lionsgate Canada, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “We love what the Piller/Segan team and showrunners/creators Jennifer Kassabian and Sarah Dodd have done to build on the story of Jason Priestley and Cindy Sampson’s Shade and Angie in Private Eyes West Coast. The CW is the perfect network to deliver the next chapter of these beloved characters to audiences.”
