Coyote Vs. Acme Trailer Hits Over 25 Million Views in Just One Day, a Record for an Indie Family Film
EXCLUSIVE: Ketchup Entertainment’s Coyote vs. Acme trailer amassed an impressive 25.6 million views within the first 24 hours of its release on Wednesday, marking a significant milestone for independent studios.
According to social analytics firm WaveMetrix, this achievement establishes it as the most-watched family film trailer launch ever by an independent studio, surpassing the previous record held by Angel Studios’ animated feature King of Kings, which opened to $19.3 million last year.
Slated for release on August 28, Coyote vs. Acme is a Looney Tunes film featuring notable actors Will Forte, John Cena, and Lana Condor. Originally produced by Warner Bros., it was shelved and written off in November 2023 due to unviable P&A economics associated with its $70 million budget. Ketchup Entertainment later acquired the film’s global rights for approximately $50 million following interest from multiple studios, including Paramount and Netflix.
The hybrid animation/live-action film draws inspiration from a humor piece in the New Yorker and centers on Wile E. Coyote’s quest to sue Acme Corporation. The cast also features a range of beloved Looney Tunes characters, including Tweety, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and Road Runner. The film is directed by Dave Green, with a screenplay by Samy Burch and a story co-crafted by Burch, Jeremy Slater, and James Gunn.
In July, Ketchup held a presentation for Coyote vs. Acme in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con.
It is worth noting that among non-MPA studios, Neon previously set a notable benchmark with its horror film The Monkey, which attracted 43 million views in its first 24 hours and 100 million within 72 hours, according to WaveMetrix, making it a record for non-MPA independent horror films.
