Shalom Obiago from ‘Christmas In Lagos’ Joins Vault Entertainment
EXCLUSIVE: Nigerian-American actor and filmmaker Shalom Obiago has signed a management deal with Vault Entertainment, marking a significant step in his rising career following his lead role in Prime Video’s original film Christmas in Lagos.
Obiago plays Elo in Christmas in Lagos, the first feature film produced under Prime Video’s inaugural filmmaker deal in Nigeria. The film quickly gained traction after its global debut last season, reaching the top spot in Nigeria and securing a place in Prime Video’s Top 10 across various regions. This surge in popularity occurred shortly after Prime Video announced it would halt funding for local original content in Africa and the Middle East.
The film, released on December 20, 2024, holds particular significance for Obiago, as it premiered shortly before the anniversary of his father’s death. “My father, Sam Obiago, was an actor himself, and losing him was devastating,” he shared in an interview with The Atlanta Voice. “After he died, I dreamed of creating something that connected me to my roots. Christmas in Lagos became the realization of that dream.”
Obiago is recognized for his work in both Hollywood and Nollywood, having appeared in notable series such as Atlanta on FX, BMF on Starz, The Black Hamptons on BET, and P-Valley. His leading role in the short film Don’t Wipe Your Tears, produced by John ‘D.C. Young Fly’ Whitfield, earned him a Best Actor nomination at the Oscar-qualifying BronzeLens Film Festival in 2024.
