Colman Domingo to Receive Honorary President’s Award at NAACP Image Awards
Colman Domingo, a two-time Oscar nominee, has been honored with the prestigious President’s Award to be presented later this month during the 57th NAACP Image Awards.
This accolade recognizes Domingo’s notable achievements and distinguished public service, following his impressive double wins at the previous Image Awards. He garnered awards for Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture for his role in Rustin and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for The Color Purple.
Domingo is also nominated for two additional Image Awards this year in the categories of Supporting Actor and Directing for the Netflix series The Four Seasons, which is set to return for its second season.
The NAACP Image Awards ceremony will take place on February 28 at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium and will be broadcast live on BET and CBS. Viola Davis is also set to receive the Chairman’s Award during the event.
Derrick Johnson, President and CEO of the NAACP, expressed his admiration for Domingo, stating, “We are honored to recognize Colman Domingo with the President’s Award for the breadth and depth of his leadership, artistry, and cultural impact. Across film, television, and theater, Colman has consistently chosen work that challenges narratives, expands representation, and centers humanity with dignity and grace. He not only excels at his craft but is also intentional in using his platform to uplift stories that might otherwise go unheard.”
Previous recipients of the President’s Award include notable figures such as Dave Chappelle, Usher, and LeBron James, highlighting Domingo’s distinguished company.
Domingo has also won an Emmy for his performance in HBO’s Euphoria. He will soon portray Joe Jackson in Antoine Fuqua’s biopic Michael, alongside roles in Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day and Jaume Collet-Serra’s An Innocent Girl.
