Civil Trial Ongoing for 2020 Westlake Village Crash that Tragically Claimed Lives of Two Young Boys
Lawsuit Filed Over 2020 Hit-and-Run Incident Involving Rebecca Grossman and Scott Erickson
Trial proceedings are underway in Van Nuys concerning a lawsuit linked to the tragic deaths of two young boys in a 2020 hit-and-run crash in Westlake Village. The lawsuit targets Rebecca Grossman, co-founder of the Grossman Burn Foundation, and former MLB pitcher Scott Erickson, who played for the Dodgers for one season.
On September 29, 2020, Grossman was involved in a fatal incident that took the lives of 11-year-old Mark Iskander and 8-year-old Jacob Iskander while they were at a marked crosswalk with their family. Grossman was subsequently convicted of their murders and is currently serving a sentence of 15 years to life in prison. Nancy Iskander, the mother of the deceased boys, has filed a lawsuit seeking to determine the liability and damages from Grossman and Erickson.
Testimony resumed on Wednesday, featuring accounts from witnesses and investigators who responded to the crash site. Earlier in the week, accident investigators and detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department provided their statements.
During opening statements last week, Brian Panish, the attorney representing the Iskander family, detailed how Grossman was driving her white Mercedes SUV home after dining with Erickson at a restaurant when the incident occurred.
In contrast, Grossman’s attorney, Ester Hold, contended that her client did not attempt to flee the scene following the collision. Furthermore, during the criminal trial, Grossman’s legal team argued that it was Erickson, not Grossman, who initially struck the boys with his black SUV; however, Erickson was not called to testify.
The civil trial is anticipated to continue for approximately six to eight weeks.
