Monday’s Quarterfinal Results
In a series of intense playoff matches on Monday, several teams advanced to the semifinals of the City Section volleyball tournament.
In Division III, top-seeded New West Charter narrowly defeated ninth-seeded Central City Value in a thrilling match that ended with scores of 25-17, 16-25, 25-10, 17-25, 15-13. Thirteenth-seeded Birmingham also caused an upset, overcoming fifth-seeded University Prep Value with a score of 3-1. Third-seeded South East triumphed over eleventh-seeded Monroe, securing victory with 25-16, 25-19, 26-28, 25-16 scores. Additionally, second-seeded Legacy slipped past seventh-seeded Lincoln after a challenging battle, winning 17-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-20.
In Division IV, eighth-seeded Annenberg faced a fierce competition against seventeenth-seeded Canoga Park, ultimately winning 26-24, 25-19, 22-25, 25-27, 15-13. Fourth-seeded Math & Science College Prep dispatched twelfth-seeded Mendez comfortably with scores of 25-15, 25-17, 25-20. In a surprising turn, seventh-seeded Maywood CES defeated second-seeded RFK Community, winning decisively at 25-12, 25-21, 25-22.
In Division V, the top-ranked WISH Academy secured a solid win over ninth-seeded Alliance Levine, with scores of 25-19, 25-12, 25-23. Thirteenth-seeded Rancho Dominguez also made headlines by beating twenty-first-seeded LAAAE convincingly, with scores of 25-16, 25-20, 25-15. Fourteenth-seeded Franklin upset sixth-seeded Gardena, winning 25-15, 25-22, 25-17. Meanwhile, tenth-seeded Animo De La Hoya edged past fifteenth-seeded Sotomayor in a competitive match that ended 28-30, 25-23, 25-20, 25-23.

The semifinals continue tonight, with the following matches set to begin at 7 p.m.:

Division I:
