Chad Ollinger from Discovery Channel Faces Murder Charges in Death of Las Vegas Cellmate
Chad Ollinger Faces Murder Charge Following Cellmate’s Death in Las Vegas Jail
Chad Ollinger, known for his role in the Discovery Channel reality series Mystery At Blind Frog Ranch, is now facing a murder charge linked to the death of his cellmate at a Las Vegas jail. The 41-year-old has been incarcerated since October at the Clark County Detention Center on separate charges of contempt of court.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reports indicate that Ollinger has been rebooked on an Open Murder charge, which allows prosecutors to later determine if the charge will be classified as first-degree or second-degree.
According to Sheriff Kevin McMahill, routine checks by corrections officers on the night of December 26 led to the discovery of a male inmate lying motionless in a cell. Officers entered the cell and found the inmate, suffering from apparent blunt force injuries. Ollinger, identified as the other inmate, was subsequently taken into custody.
Medical personnel were called to the scene, but unfortunately, the victim was pronounced dead. The deceased, 42-year-old Christopher Kelly, was confirmed by the Clark County Coroner’s Office. Investigators quickly learned that a physical altercation had taken place between Kelly and Ollinger prior to the incident. The case is currently under investigation by the LVMPD Homicide Section.
Ollinger’s presence on the Discovery Channel series has spanned nearly all 40 episodes over five seasons, with the latest season concluding in August. The show follows Ollinger and his father, Duane, as they search for a purported $3 billion in lost Aztec gold and other treasures believed to be hidden in extensive caverns beneath the family-owned Blind Frog Ranch in northeastern Utah.
The series also delves into various mysteries and phenomena associated with the ranch, including connections to ancient civilizations and UFO activity. The ranch itself derives its name from the numerous blind frogs found in the underground tunnels on the property.
Ollinger has faced multiple legal issues in recent years, though none as severe as this latest charge. In 2024, he was charged with evading arrest following a police chase in Amarillo, Texas, and was later cited for driving with an invalid license. He was arrested in Nevada on October 27 after being identified as a fugitive sought for contempt of court. Records indicate that he was sentenced on December 18 in Nevada, with a scheduled release date of January 12, 2026.
Ollinger’s next court hearing is set for December 30, and he remains in custody in Las Vegas without bond.
