Dick Van Dyke observed his 100th birthday surrounded by family and friends in a relaxed gathering on Saturday, Dec. 13. The actor and entertainer shared the special moment with a speech laced with his trademark humor, amidst a performance by musician Jon Batiste.
“This is the biggest day of my life — and the longest,” he declared to the delight of the audience. He added, “I’ve done a lot of interviews because of my birthday. Every interviewer says the same thing: ‘So, what is it like being 100 years old?’ And I say, ‘It’s not enough.’” Organized by Chris Isaacson Presents, the celebration was marked by laughter and fond memories.
Van Dyke concluded his speech by expressing gratitude to the attendees: “Thank you for coming, everybody. Enjoy yourselves. I can only see so far and hear so much, but I’m paying as much attention as I can.”

Van Dyke praised Batiste’s performance, stating it “made my day,” as the musician played favorites like “Put on a Happy Face” from *Bye Bye Birdie* and “Chim Chim Cher-ee” from *Mary Poppins*. When Batiste performed “When the Saints Go Marching In,” Van Dyke enthusiastically sang along, enjoying other classic tracks as well.
A source had shared previously that Van Dyke was also looking forward to watching the newly released documentary, *Dick Van Dyke 100th Celebration*, with family. The film features captivating stories and rare footage from his legendary career.
During the documentary’s premiere in Malibu on Dec. 7, Van Dyke’s wife, Arlene Silver, 54, mentioned his simple birthday plans. “He doesn’t want to do anything,” she noted, while expressing gratitude for the love and support her husband continues to receive.
“I’m so happy he’s here to see what I know is going to be a global celebration of him. I’m so glad he’s still with us,” Silver emphasized, reflecting on the enduring affection from fans.
Silver, a makeup artist, met Van Dyke at the SAG Awards in 2006. After collaborating on various projects, they tied the knot in 2012. “I’m so honored to have him in my life, take care of him, and nurture this community that we’ve built,” she expressed.
Reflecting on their relationship during an interview for his 100th birthday, Van Dyke praised Silver’s role in his life. “She’s responsible for keeping me in the moment. She’s kept me happy every day of my life. I’m just lucky,” he said.
Van Dyke noted that despite reaching the century mark, he feels “really good for 100” and approaches life with youthful energy. “Sometimes I have more energy than others — but I never wake up in a bad mood. I feel like I’m about 13,” he added.
*Dick Van Dyke 100th Celebration* will be showcased in theaters nationwide on Dec. 13 and 14, distributed by Fathom Entertainment.
