Kiefer Sutherland was arrested early January 1, following an incident in Los Angeles, confirmed the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). The actor, 59, was taken into custody just after midnight in the Hollywood area, near Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue.
LAPD officer Kevin Terzes reported that authorities responded to a call regarding an assault involving a rideshare driver. “The investigation determined that the suspect, later identified as Kiefer Sutherland, entered a rideshare vehicle, physically assaulted the driver, and made criminal threats toward the victim,” Terzes stated.
Sutherland was arrested on suspicion of felony criminal threats, specifically under California Penal Code section 422. Following the incident, the victim did not sustain injuries that required medical treatment.
Jail records indicate Sutherland was booked and later released on a $50,000 bond on the same day. His next court appearance is scheduled for February 2 at the Los Angeles County Superior Court.
Detectives from LAPD’s Hollywood Division are currently investigating the incident. Further comments from Sutherland’s representatives have not yet been made public.
