California DOJ Takes Action: 8.5 Million Fentanyl Doses Seized in Arcadia, Arrest Made
Major Fentanyl Trafficker Arrested in Arcadia Amid Significant Drug Seizure
In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, authorities have arrested a suspected major fentanyl trafficker in Arcadia, California, seizing millions of potentially lethal doses. The operation was announced on Thursday by California Attorney General Rob Bonta.
“We have arrested another fentanyl trafficker who was poisoning our communities and profiting off addiction,” Bonta stated.
The fentanyl haul is estimated to contain around 8.5 million doses, with a street value of at least $1.3 million. In addition to the fentanyl, authorities confiscated 17 kilograms of powder fentanyl, one kilogram of cocaine, and a handgun during the operation. The suspect was apprehended while transporting the drugs, believed to have originated from Mexico.
Charges against the suspect include possession for sale of a controlled substance, transportation of a controlled substance, and possession of a controlled substance while armed.
Bonta emphasized that this case is part of broader efforts to address the fentanyl epidemic impacting families across the country. “This fight is about more than one criminal,” he remarked. “It is about confronting the fentanyl epidemic that has devastated families across our nation.”
Since April 2022, the California Department of Justice reports seizing approximately 17.3 million fentanyl pills and over 7,100 pounds of powder fentanyl. Additionally, more than 621 fentanyl-related arrests have been made statewide.
“If you traffic fentanyl, we will find you, we will prosecute you, and we will hold you accountable to the fullest extent of the law,” Bonta warned.
In response to the growing crisis, the department launched its Fentanyl Enforcement Program in 2023, aimed at dismantling fentanyl distribution networks throughout the state. The program includes enforcement teams based in San Diego, Los Angeles, and Dublin, California.
