Caitlin Clark Takes on Analyst Role for Lakers-Knicks Game on NBC’s Basketball Night in America Premiere
Caitlin Clark to Join NBC Sports as Analyst for Lakers-Knicks Game
Caitlin Clark, the acclaimed WNBA star, is set to take on an analyst role during NBC Sports’ "Basketball Night in America," which will feature the Los Angeles Lakers facing off against the New York Knicks. The game is scheduled for Sunday night, with the pregame show starting at 3 p.m. PT, one hour prior to tipoff.
Clark’s debut on the NBC Sports platform comes amid speculation regarding the imminent return of Lakers guard Austin Reaves. After a month-long absence due to a left calf strain, Reaves’ potential return could make him one of the few players to share the floor simultaneously with teammates LeBron James and Luka Doncic.
The studio team for the pregame show will include Maria Taylor alongside NBA legends Carmelo Anthony, Vince Carter, and Tracy McGrady. Clark is expected to address Reaves’ return, should it happen in time for either Friday or Sunday’s games.
Earlier this week, excitement built around Reaves possibly returning to the lineup for a nationally televised game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. ESPN insider Shams Charania reported that Reaves would be "available to return," but the post was later deleted, and the Lakers’ injury report still lists him as out.
Clark may also take the opportunity to praise Doncic, who has previously lauded her shooting skills, stating, “that’s the women’s Steph Curry. She can shoot it better than me.”
As a central figure in women’s basketball, Clark is the all-time leading scorer in NCAA history and has already made a significant impact in the WNBA, earning Rookie of the Year honors and two All-Star selections, despite a substantial groin injury sidelining her during much of the previous season.
“Caitlin is one of the most captivating players and dynamic scorers in basketball,” said NBC Sports Executive Producer Sam Flood. “We’re excited to have Caitlin join Hall of Famers Melo, Vince, Tracy, and Reggie in New York for the launch of Sunday Night Basketball.”
The Lakers-Knicks matchup will tip off as part of a doubleheader that also features the Oklahoma City Thunder facing the Denver Nuggets.
