Exclusive: Brian Cox Joins Cast of "Dexter: Resurrection" Season 2
The mystery surrounding the first season of the acclaimed Showtime series Dexter: Resurrection has been unraveled with the announcement that Emmy winner Brian Cox will join the cast for Season 2. Known for his standout performances in Succession and Nuremberg, Cox will portray The New York Ripper, a fearsome serial killer who once instilled terror in the city. Although his killing days are behind him, the character continues to haunt the survivors by taunting them about his infamous past.
In the Season 1 finale, viewers learned that Dexter Morgan, portrayed by Michael C. Hall, had uncovered the identity of The New York Ripper. This revelation came when Dexter discovered a folder linked to last season’s antagonist, Leon Prater, carrying the name “Don Frampt, New York Ripper.” Dexter’s investigation into Prater’s collection of noted murderers sets the stage for his next moves in the series.
Showrunner and executive producer Clyde Phillips indicates that Season 1 takes place shortly after a dramatic event in which Dexter is shot by his son, Harrison (Jack Alcott). Upon waking from a coma, Dexter finds Harrison missing and embarks on a relentless journey to New York City, driven to make amends for the turmoil he caused his son.
However, the path to resolution is fraught with challenges. As Miami Metro’s Angel Batista, played by David Zayas, arrives to probe into past incidents, Dexter realizes that his previous life is swiftly converging with his present. The father-son duo must confront their personal demons in a city known for its vibrant but chaotic atmosphere, discovering that the only way to move forward is together.
Season 1 also featured notable performances from Uma Thurman as Charley, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine as Blessing Kamara, and others. Guest appearances included Neil Patrick Harris and Krysten Ritter, among others.
Details about the plot for Season 2 remain undisclosed. The series continues to be produced by Paramount Television Studios and Counterpart Studios, with executive producers that include Hall, Reynolds, Siega, and others.
Currently, Season 1 is available for streaming on Paramount+. Brian Cox, celebrated for his performances across various mediums, has received multiple accolades including an Emmy and a Golden Globe. His directorial debut, Glenrothan, will be released in theaters across the UK and Ireland on April 17th.
