Berlinale Update: No Decision Made on Festival Director Tricia Tuttle During Culture Ministry Meeting
Tricia Tuttle Remains as Berlinale Director Amid Ongoing Discussions
Tricia Tuttle will continue in her role as director of the Berlinale for the time being, as no decision was reached regarding her future during a crisis meeting at the Ministry of Culture on Thursday morning, according to local media.
A spokesperson for German Culture Minister Wolfram Weimer confirmed that a supervisory board meeting of KBB GmbH was convened at the Chancellery to discuss the Berlinale. “Discussions about the direction of the Berlinale will continue in the coming days between the artistic director, Tricia Tuttle, and the supervisory board,” the spokesperson stated.
The meeting was called following political backlash over a series of pro-Palestinian speeches delivered during the festival’s closing ceremony on Saturday, which criticized Germany’s support for Israel.
Tuttle leads KBB alongside fellow directors Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikung and Matthias Pees, along with Managing Director Charlotte Sieben. Weimer also holds a leadership position within the supervisory body.
Further developments are anticipated as discussions progress.
