Barry Keoghan is opening up about his past relationship with Sabrina Carpenter, which has recently come under scrutiny.
In a recent episode of Benny Blanco’s podcast Friends Keep Secrets, released on Tuesday, April 28, the Irish actor discussed allegations of infidelity that surrounded his breakup with Carpenter. The conversation began with a broader discussion on cyberbullying and the negative comments directed at Keoghan regarding his appearance. He revealed that he has deleted his social media accounts to distance himself from this online negativity.
This isn’t the first time Keoghan has alluded to the impact of online criticism on his life; in a SiriusXM interview in March, he mentioned that persistent attacks were beginning to take their toll. However, his recent appearance on Friends Keep Secrets marked the first occasion he directly addressed the backlash related to his breakup with Carpenter.

“There was a narrative out there that was never really sort of even spoken on,” Keoghan said. “A narrative that’s not true and I never confirmed or said anything about it. You know, I just disappeared.”
He elaborated on how the narrative surrounding his relationship began and expressed a desire to keep others out of the situation. He explained that being in a public relationship can lead to amplified rumors, which spiral out of control.
“A girl made a video. And then a girl actually made the same video and went, ‘Sorry for making that up,’” Keoghan explained. “But no one seemed to latch onto that video.”
Keoghan pointed out that the girl who created the video had noticed the reaction and he refrained from commenting because he didn’t want to exacerbate her discomfort or safety.
“I’m aware of all of that. I don’t want to bring anyone else into it,” he said. He emphasized that he does not require a fanbase or validation, but urged people to stop making assumptions and perpetuating the narrative surrounding him.
Meanwhile, Sabrina Carpenter has recently made headlines by headlining both weekends of Coachella 2026, during which she brought out Madonna on April 17 to announce their upcoming duet single, “Bring Your Love,” set to be released on Thursday, April 30.
