Bunnie Xo’s stepdaughter staged a heartfelt surprise for her and husband Jelly Roll. On December 3, Bunnie, whose full name is Alyssa DeFord, took to Instagram to share a video revealing that her 17-year-old daughter Bailee had organized a prom for the couple after discovering that they had missed their own years ago.
The touching video captures Bailee guiding her mother in a formal dress and Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason DeFord, into a beautifully arranged event space, where she announces them as prom king and queen, allowing them to share a dance together.
Reflecting on the event, Bunnie expressed, “I learned a powerful lesson as a parent this week. Bailee has always hated school dances. But because J and I never went to ours, we’ve always pushed her: ‘Go make memories. Go have the experiences we missed.’”
She continued, “This year has been heavy—schedules, mental health, burnout…all of it. We’ve kept to ourselves, and we hate surprises. So when Bailee texted saying she had one for us, I spiraled. Especially after we swore there’d be no surprises for J’s birthday. But we showed up for our girl anyway…even with tired hearts.”
Bunnie went on to describe how revealing the decorated venue and the support of friends and family overwhelmed them. The event, dubbed ‘Under the Stars,’ featured them being crowned King and Queen, allowing them to finally embrace their long-awaited moment.
She highlighted the significance of the gesture, noting, “What Bailee really wanted was to see us smile. She planned everything herself and even prepared mocktails for me.”
Bunnie concluded her reflections by emphasizing the value of time spent with loved ones, stating, “Time is the most precious thing we own. Spend it on your people. The memories you make with them will outlive everything else.”
Bunnie is also stepmother to Jelly Roll’s son, Noah Buddy, aged 9. Back in October, she discussed the challenges of raising a teenager, humorously stating, “Having a teenager is not for the weak. I tell everybody this: 13 is when the dark goes over their eyes, and you’re just like, ‘Hello? Where are you?’”
She added, “From 13 to 17, that is like a nightmare, and then, I swear to God, right at 17 and a half, they become your best friend. Bailee is my best friend. I love her to death.”
