Authorities Seek Help in Cold Case: Man Wanted for 2005 Murder of Teen in Sylmar
FBI Offers Reward for Information in 2005 Murder of 14-Year-Old Boy
Federal authorities are seeking public assistance in solving the murder of a 14-year-old boy in Sylmar over 20 years ago. The FBI has announced a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading to the arrest of Manuel Virgen-Galvan, the suspect in the case.
The incident occurred on June 29, 2005, when the boy was shot and killed outside his home while painting a friend’s bicycle. Virgen-Galvan, who was born in Mexico and is believed to still reside there, was charged with murder shortly after the incident. A state warrant for his arrest was issued in July 2005, followed by a federal warrant in January 2006 when he was charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
The FBI describes Virgen-Galvan as a 5-foot-9, 165-pound man in his 40s, with black hair, brown eyes, and a missing front tooth. Authorities caution that he should be considered armed and dangerous, and they regard him as a flight risk.
