Parents Shocked as Torrance Tutor Named Suspect in White House Dinner Shooting
LOS ANGELES COUNTY, Calif. – The local community is grappling with shock following the revelation that Cole Allen, a tutor from Torrance, is a suspect in the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, which was attended by President Donald Trump.
Parents expressed disbelief after learning that Allen, who was employed at C2 Education, was the suspect in question. "It’s just shocking," said Cesilia Peralta, a local worker who recognized him as her daughter’s tutor. "I didn’t realize he had tutored her." Peralta, who works on the same floor as the C2 Education center, recounted her surprise upon seeing Allen’s photo connected to the incident.
Wired magazine reported that Allen has held a part-time position at C2 Education since March 2020, according to his LinkedIn profile. Peralta noted that while she interacted with Allen in the hallway, he often kept to himself during his lunch breaks. However, he did have contact with her 11-year-old daughter during tutoring sessions.
C2 Education described Allen as its "Teacher of the Month" in December 2024 on its social media accounts. The company issued a statement expressing its shock at the "horrifying incident" and emphasized its full cooperation with law enforcement.
Peralta, who prioritized her daughter’s safety, stated, "Obviously her safety is my priority, and as a mom, I did feel like she was safe." She mentioned her daughter never raised concerns regarding Allen’s behavior during their sessions.
On a typical Monday afternoon, the Torrance C2 Education center would be bustling with activity. However, this particular afternoon was markedly different following the news of the incident. "You just never know who you’re around," Peralta reflected. "You see them and they’re quiet, but it was kind of shocking to learn."
The implications of this case extend beyond immediate community concerns, raising questions about safety in educational environments and the unexpected backgrounds of individuals who interact with children.
