Apple’s New CEO John Ternus Shares Valuable Insights from Tim Cook on Wall Street
Tim Cook Prepares for Leadership Transition at Apple
In a significant leadership shift, Tim Cook, the current CEO of Apple, is set to pass the reins to John Ternus on September 1. Cook introduced Ternus during the company’s recent earnings call, marking his 89th such call in his 28-year tenure at Apple.
Highlighting the company’s future, Ternus expressed optimism about Apple’s trajectory. “We have an incredible roadmap ahead. And while you’re not going to get me to talk about the details of that roadmap, suffice it to say this is the most exciting time in my 25-year career at Apple to be building products and services,” he told analysts following a strong financial quarter.
Cook, who has led the company for 15 years, noted that it was time for a change and embraced his new role as executive chairman. He recalled advice from Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, who told him, “Never ask what I would do, just do what’s right,” a guiding principle that has influenced his leadership.
When asked about advice for Ternus, Cook emphasized the importance of prioritizing the company’s mission. “One of the most important decisions you’ll make is where to spend time,” he said. “Never forget the North Star for the company. We’re about making the best products in the world that really enrich other people’s lives.”
Ternus, who began his journey at Apple in 2001 with the product design team, was praised by Cook as an exceptional leader. “There’s no one on this planet I trust more to lead Apple into the future than John Ternus. John is a brilliant engineer, a deep thinker, a person of remarkable character and a born leader,” Cook said.
Ternus acknowledged Cook’s impact, calling him “one of the greatest business leaders of all time.” He expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and committed to maintaining the thoughtfulness inherent in Apple’s financial decision-making process.
In terms of performance, Apple reported a record-breaking revenue of $31 billion for its Services division during the March quarter, which experienced double-digit growth in both developed and emerging markets. Cook detailed the success of Apple TV, highlighting its role in bringing acclaimed storytelling to audiences.
“There’s no better place to find celebrated storytellers than Apple TV,” he noted. With a growing array of popular shows, Apple TV has garnered over 800 awards and more than 3,400 nominations since its launch six years ago.
As Apple continues to innovate, Cook’s transition reinforces the company’s commitment to leadership continuity and future growth, as Ternus prepares to guide Apple into its next chapter.
