- Anne Hathaway invited fans to wear their “favorite Miranda Priestly-approved outfit” to theaters for The Devil Wears Prada 2.
- “I hope people remember how much fun they had wearing hot pink and going to see Barbie,” she remarked.
- Meryl Streep discussed the evolution of Priestly’s wardrobe in the sequel, acknowledging her character’s growth over 20 years.
In anticipation of The Devil Wears Prada 2, scheduled for release on May 1, 2026, Anne Hathaway is channeling the current fashion trend inspired by Barbie. The actress, reprising her role as Andy Sachs after two decades, is encouraging fans to dress up when attending the film — reminiscent of the hot pink ensembles worn by audiences for Barbie earlier this year.
“I’m hoping everybody dresses up and goes to the movies,” Hathaway told Vogue. “I hope people remember how much fun they had wearing hot pink and going to see Barbie. I’m hoping that everybody puts on their favorite Miranda Priestly-approved outfit and just has a blast.”
As the production of the long-awaited sequel got underway, Streep, now 76, discussed her character’s wardrobe changes with costume designer Molly Rogers. She envisioned new trends, including shoulder pants and modern styles to fit Priestly’s role.
“As a person holding her position for 20 years, she kept her look but adapted it, as we do with time,” Streep remarked. “But I almost had PTSD from wearing high heels for 16 weeks. I feel like I should get a Medal of Freedom!”
Rogers also aimed for a fresher aesthetic, incorporating “happier clothes,” with Streep donning a striking jewel-toned Lanvin coat for Priestly and a flowing white ensemble for Sachs.
Rogers shared her positive experience working with Streep, highlighting the collaborative fitting process. “We could sleep on things, like, ‘Is this Schiaparelli jacket the right moment?’” She added, “Meryl also flipped two outfits in the movie, and it was the right thing to do.”

Streep’s return to the role has rekindled nostalgia for fans, who will see Priestly navigate the challenges of the current publishing landscape. Facing the decline of traditional magazine publishing, Priestly must contend with Blunt’s character, now a high-powered executive for a luxury group.
The sequel promises to immerse audiences back into the world of Runway magazine with its own set of modern challenges and cultural shifts.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 will be available in theaters on May 1, 2026.
