- Angelina Jolie stars in the first trailer for her French drama Couture.
- The film made its world premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival.
- “It’s a very personal story for me,” Jolie previously stated regarding the film.
Angelina Jolie highlights her French language skills in the initial trailer for Couture, a drama that premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival in September. The official trailer showcases Jolie’s dual role as both actress and a filmmaker navigating personal challenges.
In Couture, set during Paris Fashion Week, Jolie portrays a filmmaker undergoing a divorce while simultaneously receiving a breast cancer diagnosis. She employs both English and French in her performance, a detail evident in the first footage released on January 6.
The 50-year-old actress has expressed a strong emotional connection to the film’s subject matter. Her mother passed away from breast and ovarian cancer at the age of 56, prompting Jolie to undergo a preventative double mastectomy in 2013 after genetic testing suggested an elevated risk of cancer.
“It’s a very personal story for me,” Jolie remarked in an interview with Time France in December, where she also displayed her surgery scars on the magazine’s cover.

During her preparation for the role, Jolie felt a profound connection with her character and praised director Alice Winocour’s distinctive portrayal of illness. “Too often, films about women’s struggles—especially cancer—focus on endings and sadness, rarely on life,” she noted. “Alice has crafted a narrative centered on life, which is why the sensitive themes it explores are treated with such care.”

Jolie added, “Hardships, illnesses, and pain are part of our existence, but what truly matters is how we confront these challenges. For me—and for many women who have undergone similar experiences—it’s imperative to remember that it’s life itself that enables us to persevere through difficult times.”
Wearing a necklace belonging to her late mother while filming Couture, Jolie conveyed to Variety in September that she found the experience particularly vulnerable. “It felt so intimate and personal that, in my mind, this is probably the one film that doesn’t feel like a film,” she expressed.
Couture is set to debut in French theaters on February 18, with a U.S. release date still pending.
