Angel Studios Welcomes Owen Wilson to ‘Runner’ and Announces Reboot of Tommy Lee Jones’ ‘Angel And The Badman’ Along with Milton Hershey Biopic for 2026 Release
Angel Studios Expands 2026 Film Slate with Five New Additions
Angel Studios has unveiled plans to add five films to its 2026 release schedule, including the thriller Runner, directed by Scott Waugh and starring Owen Wilson and Alan Ritchson, set for a September 11 debut. The studio also revealed a reimagined version of John Wayne’s 1947 classic Angel and the Badman, featuring Tommy Lee Jones. Additional projects include a Cold War-era film depicting the Reagan-Gorbachev relationship, starring Jeff Daniels and Jared Harris, a biopic about chocolate mogul Milton Hershey with Finn Wittrock in the lead role, and a holiday musical titled Drummer Boy.
With this latest announcement, Angel Studios, known for its aspirational and faith-based films, brings its total film count for 2026 to ten, following recent success with animated features David and Solo Mio, a romantic comedy starring Kevin James. Brandon Purdie, Executive Vice President and Head of Theatrical, presented the new slate at Angel’s CinemaCon event held on Monday.
Among previously announced projects is the animated adaptation of Animal Farm, directed by Andy Serkis, which is set to release on May 1.
Young Washington, directed by Jon Erwin, is set for release on July 3, coinciding with America’s 250th anniversary. This film features Kelsey Grammer, Mary-Louise Parker, and Ben Kingsley, with William Franklyn-Miller portraying a young George Washington.
Scheduled for Christmas Day, Zero A.D. is an epic biblical narrative by Alejandro Monteverde that tells the story of Mary’s sacrifices to save Jesus, featuring actors Deva Cassel, Sam Worthington, Jim Caviezel, and Ben Mendelsohn.
