Brian Tyree Henry Teams Up with Spike Fearn for Gavin O’Connor’s New Apple Film ‘Running’
Brian Tyree Henry Joins Cast of Apple Original Film ‘Running’
Brian Tyree Henry, acclaimed for his performances in Apple’s Causeway and the crime series Dope Thief, has secured a role in the upcoming film Running. He will star alongside Spike Fearn in this project directed by Gavin O’Connor, previously reported in November.
While specific character details remain undisclosed, Running centers on a homeless high school running prodigy striving for success and connection, utilizing his extraordinary talent to escape his troubled past and seek out a family.
O’Connor has shared insights into the film’s origin, expressing, “I started thinking about building a story around a homeless kid who doesn’t have a place in the world. No love. No friends. No family. The only home he knows is the streets. It felt like a great place to begin a character’s journey and tell an underdog story about the human spirit.”
The screenplay for Running was penned by Bill Dubuque, known for his work on Ozark. This project is a collaboration between Apple Studios, Makeready, and Nike.
Henry recently served as an executive producer and lead actor in Dope Thief, which garnered him nominations for both an Emmy and a Critics Choice Award. His role alongside Jennifer Lawrence in Causeway marked his first Academy Award nomination.
Looking ahead, Henry will feature in Netflix’s animated series Bass X Machina, where he takes on both executive producer and starring roles. His slate of upcoming projects also includes Sam Esmail’s Warner Bros. thriller Panic Carefully, the Wagner Moura-directed Last Night at the Lobster, and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. He is represented by Jennifer Wiley-Moxley of JWM Entertainment Group, CAA, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
